I’m getting ready to have a lawn sale and was going through some old books of mine.

I found the book: Fast Track: How to Gain and Keep Momentum by Roger Fritz

I had purchased the book way back in the day…when I was testing out a different network marketing opportunity.

I happened to take a peek inside to determine if this is a book worthy of keeping.

I opened to page 111, where it is headlined: Get the wind at your back

It  speaks about continued learning, choosing friends wisely, volunteering and working at something you love.

Great advice and the rest of the book looks like it’s worth another read.

But then again, the new version looks twice as big, with even more info.

So maybe I’ll sell this copy and get a copy of the newest version.

I found it online here:
Fast Track: How to Gain and Keep Momentum

You can never read a good book too many times!

Is your job search sagging? Are you still looking for that ideal next job? Or are you about to begin looking for new work and are not sure of the best way to go about it?

What you need is a way to evaluate your job search strategies to see whether or not they are working effectively for you.

Ready to get started? Here are 12 building blocks to a successful job search and the goals that will help you get to where you really want to be in the world of work:

1.) Making networking phone calls: Effective job searches begin and end with networking. Start by making a list of everyone you know: family members, extended family, friends, present & past co-workers, faith community colleagues, barber/hairdresser, dog groomer, neighbors. Even list the clerks who work in your favorite grocery or video store, bank tellers and gas station attendants. Everyone! Call or talk to each person on your list (most people can easily produce a list of 50-100 people). Target: Make 3-5 new networking phone calls weekly.

2.) Contacting employers before openings occur: The process of applying for a job before an opening is known to be present is referred to as accessing the hidden job market – and doing so is critical for job search success. By using a great on-line tool such as Reference USA to access employer information, you can mail targeted resumes and cover letters to companies that match your size, focus and sales criteria. Target: Mail 5-10 targeted but unsolicited resumes with cover letters weekly.

3.) Responding to online postings: There are literally hundreds of sites like Monster.com, and you can pour hours and hours into searching them for job opportunities. Remember to search on multiple titles or portions of titles and to post your resume at every opportunity. Target: respond to 3-5 postings weekly.

4.) Responding to newspaper help wanted ads: This is the favorite job seeking strategy of searchers everywhere, but guess what? Out of every 100 resumes an employer receives, they will throw away 92-95! Target: Submit only 3-5 resumes and cover letters weekly in response to help wanted ads.

5.) Identifying new employers to contact: Find employers the old-fashioned way: in phone books, through networking leads, through word-of-mouth, in reference sources and online databases (such as Reference USA, mentioned above), through articles in local papers and through the Yellow Pages of your local phone directory. Target: Identify and research 5 new employers weekly and use them to fill your quota for #2, above.

6.) Contacting recruiters and employment agencies: Its not appropriate for every job seeker to contact recruiters and employment agencies, but if this strategy makes sense for you, then by all means make use of them. Target: Contact 1 new recruiter or agency weekly.

7.) Making follow-up phone calls & sending thank you letters/cards: Sending out resumes and cover letters is only the first step in the process of developing relationships with employers. About 1 to 2 weeks afterward, call them to verify they received your materials and to inquire about next steps. Always follow-up on interviews and make is a habit to send thank you letters or cards afterward as well. Target: Make 5-10 follow-up phone calls weekly and send a thank you letter or card for every job interview or informational interview you participate in each week.

8.) Managing your references: How do you manage references? Supply each one with a copy of each version of your resume. Keep them up-to-date on what is happening in your job search. You dont need to call them weekly, but you should generate news every few weeks at least. Give your references a copy of all the references youre using so each one can refer an employer on to someone else on the list if asked. Prepare your references by giving them background information, adjectives and descriptive words that sell your best stuff. Target: Contact each reference at least once per month during your active job search and contact everyone when that perfect opportunity comes along to prepare them.

9.) Practicing interview answers: Dont just practice the night before an interview. Target: Practice your interview answers and questions at least 1 time per week.

10.) Practicing the salary negotiations process: Ditto with salary negotiations. Target: Practice your strategies and responses at least 1-2 times per week.

11.) Staying socially connected with employed others: Job searching is extremely lonely, so make sure you stay socially involved with family and friends. Target: Get out of the house at least 2 times weekly to see friends or extended family.

12.) Managing your attitude and energy: This is the most important building block of all, because without a positive attitude and high, focused energy, you wont achieve the result you want. Targets: Do at least 1 fun and creative thing outside your house weekly.
Why not take Fridays off (if youre unemployed) and enjoy! Absolutely, categorically dont job search on weekends. Exercise, take care of your body, and journal. Feed your mind good books and your spirit hope.

Strengthen or do more of what works. Adapt, replace or fix what does not work. Reevaluate your search progress every 30 days for as long as it takes for you to find the work you really want. And, if your job search results do not markedly improve within 45 days, see a career search professional for individualized assistance.

There is something that has been bugging me for a while – blogs that are nothing but reviews, reviews, reviews. There is no great content to read, sometimes not even a profile. A reader has no idea if they can trust the authors opinion, because they don’t even know the author.

People buy from people…..

People know I like making money on the Internet through blogging, writing, affiliate marketing and even a home business….

They know I like to help others.

If they read my other blog/s they know me even more personally.

Based on what people know of me, they can decide if they will follow my blog, go to websites or marketing systems I recommend, or even purchase products or services from me.

So I was going to write about about all that, but then found a blog post that pretty much covered that subject. The comments are quite varied and even a little heated…….

A Cowboys Wife really hit a nerve here, but I feel the same way she does.

Reviewing products, especially family related products should be on a “mom or pop” blog, as there will be many readers who are parents.

If you review “business items” such as electronics, marketing systems, books, etc…a straight forward blog is ok, but I still feel people have to get to know a little bit about the author.

What do you think?

One of the best advices while you are going to college is to rush and find some financial aids. It is true that the education nowadays costs too much and without some financial help, one is not able to cover the tuition fees. However, I want to warn you that you are not the only one who is looking for some financial aids, that is why you have to be operative and persistent in your search.

I recommend you to start form the scholarships and grants, as they are the best kinds of the financial aids. You do not have to cover them, that is why you are not bind to different monthly bills, overpayments, and interest rates. However, because of being so profitable, their amount is quite limited and sometimes it becomes not very simple to get them. However, if you do not lift a finger, you will not receive the scholarship or grant.  From the other side, some grants and scholarships remain unused, because the students are afraid that they are not eligible for them and as a result, they do not apply for them.

Educational loans are also considered to be financial aids, however, as it was already mentioned above, they are not very advantageous to be taken.

For those of you who missed it, Karen Owen, a student at Duke University, sent a  summary of her sex life to some friends, via email. The content is not safe for work, but it looks safe because it's in PowerPoint. She has bullet points, charts, and graphs. How can you not admire a woman who can graph her sex life?

Owen's sex life is a workplace issue. For one thing, it was the third most searched topic on Google yesterday, which means a large percentage of people were reading her slideshow while at work. But more importantly, Owen's slides capture the shift in women's empowerment, which is happening at the workplace and having the ripple effect of empowering women in sex. Owen's slides make me excited about the new generation of women and how much they take their own power for granted. I'm excited to see what they will do with it.

Here are some things to think about when you read her slides:

1. She used PowerPoint in a revolutionary way.
Is there a more male tool than PowerPoint? First of all, the software is lecture-y and unconversational, which is typical for men at work. Second of all, it’s been the tool of choice for the notoriously boys club career: venture capitalists and the people who pitch to them. That Owen used this male tool to talk about what men are really like in bed turns our workplace preconceptions on their head.

2. She illustrates why men are afraid of twentysomething women.
The workplace has women everywhere. Even a place like Google, known for their tech guys, is also known for having a sales force full of very hot women. So middle-aged men are often alone, day after day, with single, hot young women. When has this happened in history? At this point, there is a culture of men being smitten with young women, and young women feeling empowered enough to leverage that without actually giving in.

And, when it comes to young men, they are not earning as much as the women (the Wall Street Journal reports that in Atlanta young women earn an incredible 21% more than their male counterparts). Men are not as in high demand compared to women and since young women are sexy, and young men do not have power that can make them sexy, that's not likely to change. So twentysomething women are running circles around men of all ages. These slides do a good deal to confirm that.

3. The rules are all different.
These slides are fascinating because they presuppose that the rules of the world have changed, in favor of a woman like Owen.  For example, the rules of privacy are new. Instead of resulting in a Scarlet A, or family embarrassment, Owen reveals she is smart, funny, and a great writer. (And look, agents are already calling her.) The slides also reveal new rules for gatekeeping. Owen did not need permission from anyone, or any workplace experience, to make a more significant impact on the workplace than you did today. Finally, her slides show us that the rules of learning are new. We can share all our knowledge, about anything. Nothing is sacred and nothing is secret, and we can crowdsource anything, to learn everything faster, even how to pick up a lacrosse player and get him into bed.

It's clear to me that none of this information is ground-breaking in and of itself. There's a huge study about sex in the US, that reveals a wide swath of the population to be pretty sexually liberal. So what makes these slides so fascinating?  I think it's her spunk and self-knowledge and enthralling sense of her own power. I wish I had had that when I was her age. I am twenty years older than Owen, but she inspires me to be brave, takes risks, and let my creativity get the best of me.

Are you involved in a homebased business or acting as an Independent Agent for a company? If you work on a commission bases, you probably know it takes time to build up a customer or member base. But how much time is TOO much time? When is it time to “Get out of Dodge”?

Much of it boils down to how long you can afford to work full time making only a part time paycheck. You’ve probably heard the adage, “Give it 2-4 years…you’ll be making multiple 6-figure incomes!”

Ok, maybe not that much, but longevity is definately the key here. If you have been working your opportunity for less than 2 years and you’re not making the money you feel you should be, you may want to think twice before quitting and moving to a different opportunity.

Success in ANY venture boils down to a few things:

Do you love what you do and believe in the product or service?

You can’t really sell something if you don’t use it , love it and believe in the company!

Are you plugged into a good marketing system? A system provides a path to follow, that will ultimately lead to success.

Despite what you may have been told by your upline , success doesn’t happen just because you signed on the dotted line and ordered a kit. It takes marketing- LOTS of it!

If your upline doesn’t have a PROVEN, Duplicatable system that can be done by the masses, you’re doomed.

It’s time to find one yourself or get out of Dodge!

If you’ve been treading water for 2-4 years and still not as successful as you would like to be…

Congratulations, you’ve stuck it out like you were told!

The question is, were you continuing to learn, working on self-development? Maybe your upline is still marketing like they did before the Social Networking boom. Times have changed, you need to change with it.

I found a great quote recently:

If You Don’t Change Directions Soon, You’ll Get Where You’re Going

Sometimes it’s one simple thing….

I love to write, so blogging and article writing were something I  naturally gravitated to on the Internet.

Instead of running 100′s of ads a day to promote my biz, I discreetly advertise my biz on my home biz pages on my blogs, and at times write about it.

Believe it or not, that one simple thing, that I love, has brought me MORE business than all the ads…

AND led to another business………..having to do with blogging.

And affiliate marketing…..

Ok, so you’ve all seen the highlighted links here for Attraction Marketing.

I try not to blatantly say to anyone, “Join this NOW!

But this helped me so much!

If you are struggling in business, you may want to check into it. There are several free newsletters- I make nothing off of you opting into them.

Just so you know….

You can join as a professional, which comes with a monthly fee (yes, I get a few cents for that :-) , but let me tell you…

…they have articles, videos, teleconferences, etc….I mean TONS of them in the professional section.

Everything you ever wanted to know about using SEO, Facebook, article writing, creating websites, blogging, squidoo, coaching, youtube, autoresponders and more…

And they are done by many different people, not just one person.

They even have a 1/2 hour free business coaching session with every one of the coaches. Then if you wish, you can choose the one you like and schedule a follow up with them.

If you are into affiliate marketing, you can refer this service to others, and they have tons of affiliate marketing links that you can put on your blog or website.

This in itself, if you took atvantage of everything and promoted it, could be a biz in itself!

I have been using this system since maybe January and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the information there!

But this information has really helped me find my niche (writing) – I just can’t express how much I have learned in such a short while….

So before you saddle up and “get out of Dodge” maybe you should try one more time……

Hope you all have a happy, safe and prosperous weekend!

P.S. Mitch & Anita…I am FINALLY going the self-hosting route…..just been having too much going on with life and computer problems to deal with more issues…

My website is almost done, then on to the blogs :-)

When it comes to the college advices, I always advice to all the students to find out about the programs of college internship.

Many students think that it is not prestigious to be a member of the college internship programs, but they are mistaken. Internship has great benefits for the students. Let us get acquainted with the benefits of internship a little bit closer.

The first benefit is that you are not loosing your time for nothing. If you have some spare time why not to spend it in order to improve your financial position and not to make some premises for your future successful life. Spend this spare time for the internship and you will receive the opportunity to earn money.

Except of some financial supplement, you will receive a priceless operational experience. You have to understand that it is very difficult to be employed if you do not have operational experience, internship gives you such an experience, and when you will be filling in your CV, the space of the operational experience is not going to be empty. This fact will give you great advantages before all the other candidates at that very position you want to occupy.

I couldn’t think of a better way to enjoy high school than by going out and making a sports team. Whether it be baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball, or football, playing sports in high school is a great way to make friends and stay busy.

Of course, if you don’t like any sports at all, then this isn’t advice for you. But even if you have a slight interest in one, try and make the team. It’s fun to be on it, whether or not you play, and you make a lot of friends. The training is tough but rewarding, and the respect you get for being on the team around school is great.

If you feel lacking before trying out, you can buy a door gym or some other simple home fitness equipment and begin an exercise regimen. After a week or two, you’ll feel your body begin to change and your confidence in your body and your ability to improve yourself increase.

Also, you won’t have to really work if you’re on a sports team. Most parents won’t deny you the ability to play on the team, and if you’re busy with practice every day, you don’t have to work! Trust me, unless you find a job you really like, you don’t want to work in high school. You’ve got the rest of your life to work. Spend high school having fun. And by joining a sports team, that’s pretty much a guarantee. No matter how hard it is, the reward is like none other.
